So, this Saturday is my 52nd birthday but, more important for this space, the 1st birthday of this little newsletter. (Throws confetti.)
Because I’ll be away all weekend taking part at the American Political History Conference at Vanderbilt, I thought I’d go ahead and mark the moment now.
I just wanted to thank everyone for subscribing, especially those of you who have chipped in a little to be paid subscribers. That’s a really nice vote of confidence in what I’m doing here, and I appreciate it tremendously.
As we move into the summer, we’re going to have plenty to discuss here.
If nothing else, this promises to be an amazing election. The Republican convention is going to come just a few days after the party’s nominee is sentenced on 34 felony convictions, for starters, and there’s a chance the Democratic convention — held in Chicago as young voters protest a foreign war — could get interesting too, to say the least.
I’ll try to put those in historical context, along with whatever happens in the debates, on the campaign trail, and elsewhere in politics in Congress, the Supreme Court and even the states too.
And in the spirit of discussion, we can make this an Ask Me Anything forum too. If there’s something you’re especially interested in or curious about, let me know!
Happy early birthday. Enjoy the weekend.
Happy birthday to both of you!
Thanks for all you’re doing.
