Happy New Year!
In the time since my last post, I’ve been busy trying to find a new home for Campaign Trails, but it’s proved much harder than I’d been led to believe.
I’ve spent much of the last two weeks sorting through the alternatives, and so far, nothing seems to work. Many of the other options are just as disappointing on the Nazi issue as Substack, while the sites with a clear-cut policy are just too goddamn complicated for this simply country historian to navigate.
Also, I deeply appreciate those of you who have already paid a full year’s subscription to this newsletter, either as Paid Subscribers or, God bless you, Founding Members, and I don’t want to make a move without being sure that the subscriptions move over without interruption. (Unlike Substack, most of the other sites require a significant investment at the outset. While I was willing to spend a couple thousand out of pocket to make the move, I frankly can’t afford to flush that money away on a gamble with no guarantees it’ll all work.)
So …
For the time being, I’m going to stay put here at Substack. I’m going to keep looking for an alternative, but searching the interwebs for newsletter options just can’t be my full-time gig anymore. I’ve got a book to write and I’d like to focus the little free time I have on writing newsletters instead of building a new site from scratch.
I realize this will be a disappointment to some of you — believe me, it is for me — and I’ll certainly understand if you feel the need to unsubscribe.
But I hope you won’t. I still have hopes for finding a new home, but while I’m here I’ll keep providing the commentary and historical perspective on contemporary politics that you signed up for. This is an election year, after all, and it’s about to get busy.
Buckle up!
I think you are doing the right thing. Your voice is needed.
