One educational deficiency of young, left-wing citizens is not understanding that elections are not about expression. They are, without exception, about choosing the least aversive option. Surprisingly, this isn’t intuitive. I was young once, needed to be taught.

So sorry for your loss.

I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s often awkward to know what to say to a person who just lost someone close. A friend suggested asking the recently bereaved to tell a story about their loved one that always makes them smile.

Thanks for this post, my election anxiety level is peaking and this piece about landslide elections made me feel a lot better.

It also irritated me bc it reminded me that a dear friend voted for Reagan in 1984. 😖

I'm so sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. It's perfectly understandable that you haven't been able to write for us here. No need to apologize. Having said that, your post is a timely reminder that VP Harris is running a fairly traditional campaign - with modern twists - and that it shows strength of character that she is promising to be president of ALL Americans. Thank you for providing some balance to the typical Democratic October panic.

I remember in the 90s my friend's older brother had a bumper sticker that said, "fire them all, rehire no one" Or something like that. He was a rich kid. Son of two rich doctors. He had a cool bronco and played football at the University of Missouri.

It is so weird that someone who has benefited so much from the way things are, would want to destroy it. And that is what Trump is selling. That this whole project is screwed and we need to tear it down. And again, why do rich people think this is a good idea? I suppose they hope it won't really happen. It will just make poor people stay in their place and work for cheap and quit complaining.

Really I don't know.

But the fact they have made it this far. To the point where their candidate is saying, "I will fire them all and won't replace them (Like Elon did at Twitter!) and it will be great!"

It is so meta that it's hard to see. Like the paradox of tolerance.

So sorry about your mom, that's a tough loss for all of us when it comes. And thanks for the calming essay today about Harris's seeming embrace of the Cheney's, it was sort of giving me the willies. But I do sense a sort of quiet landslide coming on, so I grit my teeth and countdown to the evening of the 5th when I, latest in the U.S. time zones, hope to toast Madame President well before dawn the next day!

Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., complained to JFK about a republican he wanted to appoint to his cabinet (Doug Dillon in Treasury). JFK responded that he didn't care what party he was in, because what mattered is whether he is for "the program." JFK also said that liberals required "visual reassurance." It continues.

Sorry for your loss.

Noticed that the examples you referred to, were “landslide”victories. Is there something you know, that you’re not telling us?

Ha! No, just using some prominent examples of winning campaigns.
