History, in fact, rhymes. Tuberville's contortion is no surprise. He remains solidly on brand. The silence from others who look like him, in his generation, from the South -- for instance a certain ex-President -- is deafening.

You know what? He shouldn't give a rat's ass what the party thinks. This is an issue of morality and true patriotism. He should be preaching on this every damned day. He certainly had the nerve to wag his finger at some civil rights leaders, and not others, at John Lewis' funeral. Yes, I'm still salty about that. Clinton needs redemption on this point and from my perspective, there is no time like the present to step up and display what little leadership and credibility he has left.

Tuberville and his ilk often try to justify their positions by adding the word "Christian" to their views, which seems to them to make racism okay. By trying to "baptize" their racist views they are appealing to the knee-jerk responses of many Americans. The merger of nationalistic and Christian views is particularly odious--and dangerous.

I am really enjoying your commentary on this site. It beats having to deal with the toxicity over on the bird site. I hope to get caught up on my reading of all of the Substacks and/or podcasts I subscribe to soon so that I can comment more in real time.
